Let us start with your overall plan: If you don’t have one, it is time to start. But, don’t stress, we will do it together.
Let’s begin by answering the following questions:
* Do you own now?
* Do you need to sell before you buy first?
* Where do you want to move to?
* What style of living are you going to want – larger home, smaller home, condo, rental, independent living, assisted living? Assess the price, the outfiting and upkeep of the new home and plan your monthly/annual budget. Ask what the time frame is for you to move into your choice of abode? Is there a long waiting list?
* What is the value of your current home in today’s market? I will prepare a comparable market analysis for you and an assessment of how long it may take to sell and the range of price you might realize.
* Make out your budget for preparing your home for sale. Does it need painting inside and/or out? Do the floors need refinishing? Is the front porch in need of repair? Is the landscaping in need of sprucing up?
* Who will help you plan what you will take with you, what airlooms and/or furniture you will distribute to family members, what antiques you may want to sell, or what articles you will donate to worthy causes?
* Then, how will you dispose of what is no longer useful, who will do the final CLEANOUT and how much will that cost? (Everything must be removed from the basement, the attic, the garage, etc).
